Our Story
Step into history at The Owain Glyndŵr Hotel.
With origins dating back to the 13th century, The Owain Glyndŵr Hotel has long been a gathering place for travellers and locals. One of the few remaining coaching inns along the historic London to Holyhead route, the hotel sits proudly in the heart of Corwen’s historic centre, just steps from the 12th-century church and ancient graveyard.
Over the centuries, the hotel has been extended through several phases, each one adding to its unique character. Notably, it was the site of the first public Eisteddfod in Wales in 1789 — a tradition of poetry and music that remains a vibrant part of Welsh culture today.
After a period of decline, the hotel was bought by the local community in September 2024 with support from a UK government grant. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength, carefully restored to retain its heritage while offering all the comforts of modern hospitality.

Guests can enjoy:
- A cosy lounge bar and restaurant, complete with a roaring fire — the perfect retreat on cold winter nights.
- A vibrant sports bar, where you can join locals to cheer on football, rugby, and other major events.
- A flexible function room, seating up to 80 guests — ideal for private events, community gatherings, and regular live entertainment.
- A private dining room for up to 16 guests is available on request.

Whether you’re here to explore Welsh history, soak in the local culture, take a walk in the Berwyn mountains or simply relax in a warm and welcoming setting, the Owain Glyndŵr Hotel offers an unforgettable experience.
We look forward to welcoming you.
